Sampaguita cafe, Calne, Wiltshire

On our way to an Airbnb in the Cotswold we decided to detour via Avebury, to explore Europe’s largest. neolithic stone circle. Heavy rain confined us to the car, so we took some photos and vowed to return when the weather was better.

Lunch awaited and we pressed on to the small market town of Calne. I had spotted a Filipino cafe in the town so we pulled in for a silog feast.

Sampaguita is tucked away in a secluded courtyard, opposite St Mary’s Church. We pulled in to the carpark and were soon ordering two generous plates of Pork Tocino ( Traditional Filipino Breakfast).

The sweet marinated pork was perfectly cooked and served with a couple of fried eggs and a simple tomato, red onion and cucumber salad with a side of rice.

We chatted to Tess, the owner, and bought a couple of cakes for the journey. I also picked up a bottle of Datu Puti soy sauce with calamansi.
