A week on the Norfolk Broads

Just back from a relaxing week on the Norfolk Broads. Big skies, clean fresh air and endless waterways and wetlands.

We walked 53 miles in six days. Strolled on the wide, sandy beach at Sea Palling and saw seals playing in the surf.

From Barton Broad Boardwalk we walked the country lanes to Irstead Staithe where we came across St Michael’s. A 14th-century church with some much older features.

The ironwork on the main door dates from c. 1290 and the pews are original.

On the south side of the 14th-century font is a carving of John the Baptist. Closer inspection reveals his head is depicted on a plate.
